We’ve hit a whopping 2,500 game releases. Seriously, can someone please put a stop to the endless flood of new games?
Last week snuck in a couple of surprises: For starters, there was Ironfall Invasion popping up unexpectedly on NA’s release list, boasting an impressive +19 new titles. Keep an eye out for John’s review coming soon, though let’s cross our fingers this one doesn’t get pulled for any major security flaws. Meanwhile, Fantastic Night Dreams Cotton made an appearance in the Archives, gracing us with a rare retro gem.
That magical +19 brings us to a total of 65 releases this past week in NA. And yes, that means we’ve already surpassed last year’s total, putting us over the 2,500 release mark. On a personal note, we’re entering what I like to call the "Hell Months" at work, a period so grueling that the only break I’ve managed in seven years involved an extended hospital stay. You can imagine how thrilled I am about this surge.
Now, let’s talk about the main attraction this week: Hironobu Sakaguchi, the mastermind behind Final Fantasy, could be bringing his potential final project to consoles with Fantasian Neo Dimension. After its stint as an Apple Arcade exclusive, it’s now making its console debut. This week also sees the launch of Fitness Boxing 3, published by Nintendo outside of Japan, and Roller Coaster Tycoon making a comeback with retooled controls for consoles. Not to forget Diesel Legacy: The Brazen Age, a fighter game that’s been making the rounds at gaming expos over the past couple of years. Oh, and AntonBlast is showing up too, though we’re still waiting on the price for that one.
On the indie front: The EggConsole line brings us Riglas, a side-scrolling RPG reminiscent of the earlier Ys titles. What’s neat is it’s playable even if you don’t know Japanese and had its original release in Japan through Random House’s quirky distribution. Meanwhile, the MasterChef series makes its cooking console debut, resembling something that could only be described as “exotic tartare” in the most Gordon Ramsay way possible.
