Intel’s journey in the discrete GPU market is far from finished. Intel is not resting on its laurels with the “Battlemage” GPUs, and plans for next-generation architectures, “Celestial” and “Druid,” are still on track and proceeding as planned.
With Intel’s Battlemage architecture set to hit the market around mid-December, there’s been rising curiosity about what the company has in store for its future desktop GPU endeavors. This curiosity is understandable, given the company’s previous ups and downs in the GPU space. Still, according to the reputable leaker @jaykihn0, there’s no need to worry—Intel’s roadmaps for the desktop GPU lineup, specifically the Celestial and Druid, are progressing smoothly.
The leaker clarified on Twitter that confusion might be stemming from misunderstandings about Intel’s dedication to both laptop and desktop GPUs. Intel is not only keen on maintaining consistency in releasing desktop GPUs but is also working on scaling up its laptop integrated GPUs to rival desktop offerings. This hints at Intel’s strategic focus on mobile GPUs in the long run, while still committing to developing standalone desktop GPU products.
As for what lies ahead with Intel’s Celestial lineup, it is expected to succeed Battlemage with an all-new “Xe3” architecture. However, details on its specifications are still under wraps. The same goes for the Druid architecture, which will roll out with the “Xe-Next” architecture, aiming to compete with offerings that are two generations down the line. Clearly, Intel’s foray into the desktop GPU market is still unfolding, and there’s much more on the horizon.
For now, the anticipation centers on Intel’s Arc Battlemage SKUs, which are rumored to make their debut soon. Their release will provide crucial insights into Intel’s future strategies in the desktop GPU sector.
