Indie publisher Reforged Studios has recently added another feather to its cap with the acquisition of Yellow Lab Games, marking its third development purchase this year.
While the financial details of the deal with the South African developer remain under wraps, GI.biz reports that Yellow Lab will continue to operate independently. Excitingly, they’re working on the roguelite RPG, Metavoidal, which is slated for a Steam release in the first quarter of 2025.
This acquisition follows closely on the heels of Reforged snapping up Ground Shatter and Extra Mile Studios just this past August.
Reflecting on this new addition, Peter Van Der Watt, CEO and founder of Reforged, remarked, “Growing up in South Africa, I have always been aware of the incredible game development talent the country hosts. Yellow Lab Games have been on my radar for some time, especially since seeing the positive reaction to Metavoidal, their first foray into PC and console gaming.”
Peter, who has been a staunch advocate for South African game development since moving to Scotland to establish his first game studio in 2011, continues to champion the region’s talent. “The entire Reforged board shares my enthusiasm for the region’s potential. When the opportunity arose to have David Hecker and his team join our group, we did not hesitate. We are all really excited to add South Africa’s top games talent to the Reforged team and fully expect this to be the beginning of a broader investment in Africa’s burgeoning gaming scene.”
