At CES 2025, NVIDIA made a big splash by announcing that its cloud gaming service, GeForce NOW, will soon be compatible with a range of new devices, including the Apple Vision Pro, Meta Quest 3 and 3S, and Pico headsets.
Now, it’s important to clarify that this extension of support doesn’t mean you’ll be diving into VR-specific titles through the cloud just yet. Instead, this expansion focuses on enabling access to traditional games that you’d typically play on platforms like Windows, Mac, Android, iOS, and various handheld devices.
If you’re using a Vision Pro, Quest 3/S, or Pico headset, you’ll soon be able to access these games via GeForce NOW directly through your browser, thanks to an upcoming version 2.0.70 update that’s set to roll out before the month’s end. According to Nvidia, this update will bring the full spectrum of NVIDIA’s technological goodness, such as ray tracing and their famous DLSS, to VR users. You’ll be able to enjoy these games on a huge virtual screen if you’ve got a gamepad-compatible title in your sights.
One of the perks of NVIDIA’s cloud gaming service is the option for limited free access, but there’s also the allure of premium options with daily passes or monthly subscriptions offering enhanced experiences. With a whopping library of over 2,000 games, there’s certainly a lot to explore.
This isn’t exactly uncharted territory for VR devices seeking cloud gaming experiences. Back in 2022, Pluto VR attempted to bring cloud gaming to Quest with its PlutoSphere app, though it was removed in early 2024 as Meta slashed non-approved cloud streaming services from their store.
In contrast, Microsoft found success as they were allowed to introduce their Xbox Cloud Gaming and Game Pass services to Quest at the tail end of 2023, indicating a potential shift toward more integrated cloud gaming options on VR platforms.
