Bursting onto the scene from Cimmeria, Conan the Barbarian is set to make a powerful entrance into Mortal Kombat 1 later this month, thanks to the latest installment of the Khaos Reigns expansion.
In this iteration, Conan draws inspiration from the legendary 1982 film in which Arnold Schwarzenegger first brought the character to life. While Schwarzenegger’s likeness is unmistakable, the voice work is expertly handled by Chris Cox. Fans might remember Cox’s stellar job voicing the Terminator in Mortal Kombat 11, and here, he doesn’t disappoint in capturing that iconic Austrian accent.
Conan’s sword-wielding skills, revealed in his gameplay teaser, stand out for their fluidity, showcasing some of the best animation Mortal Kombat has seen in recent times. Fans should keep an eye open for neat Easter eggs, too. You’ll spot Conan battling alongside a red Sonya and even transforming into a Cimmerian bull—a nod to the creature he famously claimed to have wrestled as a child in Robert E. Howard’s original tales.
Mark your calendars for January 21, when Conan becomes available during an exclusive early access period for those who have purchased the complete Khaos Reigns package. A week later, on January 28, he will be available for all players. Conan is the fifth special guest to grace the Mortal Kombat 1 roster, joining the ranks of Invincible’s Omni-Man, DC’s Peacemaker, Homelander from The Boys, and the chilling Ghostface from Scream. Looking ahead, players can anticipate the T-1000 from Terminator 2 rounding out this star-studded cast in the near future.
