The trailer for the Nintendo Switch 2 is gaining remarkable traction on YouTube, even surpassing the views garnered by the 2020 PlayStation 5 announcement. Although it hasn’t quite caught up to Nintendo’s memorable 2016 teaser for the first Switch, it’s close behind.
This enthusiastic response highlights the buzz surrounding Nintendo’s next major console. On January 16, after much anticipation filled with leaks, rumors, and speculation, Nintendo finally unveiled the Switch 2. The announcement came through a crisp two-minute video that not only showcased the new console but also hinted at a new Mario Kart game—a tantalizing prospect for fans.
Just three days after its release, the Switch 2 trailer had already hit 18.78 million views on Nintendo of America’s YouTube channel, amassing over a million likes. In comparison, the PlayStation 5 debut video had a similar number of likes but only reached around 18.14 million views within the same timeframe back in June 2020. By early 2025, the PS5 video had achieved 44 million views and 1.6 million likes on YouTube. It’s likely that the Switch 2 video could surpass the overall likes that the PS5 announcement received.
Yet, despite its current success, the Switch 2 reveal is still trailing behind the original Switch’s 2016 trailer, which achieved 19.5 million views within just two days before being taken down, as reported by VGC.
The excitement surrounding the Switch 2 is unmistakable and Nintendo is evidently aware. Recent analyst reports suggest that the company is gearing up to produce around 20 million units for the first year—significantly more than the 2017 launch of the original Switch, which faced supply issues, further exacerbated by the 2020 pandemic.
Next year, Nintendo has planned pop-up events worldwide to give fans some hands-on experience with the new console, kicking off in April and running through to early June. Prior to these events, a special Nintendo Direct focused on the Switch 2 is set for April 2. Here, details like pricing, release date, and initial game offerings are expected to be disclosed. Rumors hint that this new console might retail for around $449—a notable increase from its predecessor’s initial price.
As we await more updates, the anticipation for Nintendo’s latest innovation continues to grow.
