Ryu Hayabusa is back, and this time he isn’t alone. After a long wait of 13 years, fans finally have something to celebrate: Ninja Gaiden 4 is here. Ryu returns to deliver the adrenaline-pumping hack-and-slash action that made the franchise a classic, and he’s teamed up with an ally who brings an extra dose of martial arts flair.
After what has felt like an eternity, Ninja Gaiden 4 is finally on the horizon. The series’ last major installment was Ninja Gaiden 3, which didn’t quite hit the mark with fans. Since then, we’ve had a smattering of re-releases and spin-offs, but nothing that captured the full essence of Ryu’s action-packed escapades.
Now, Team Ninja has unveiled a true sequel, and it looks nothing short of spectacular. This time around, we meet Yakumo, a new hero who steps up to challenge the powerful Divine Dragon Order ruling over a futuristic Tokyo. As the story unfolds, Yakumo teams up with Ryu. Initially, their partnership seems tense, but you can bet they’ll soon start respecting each other as they navigate the glowing city streets, tearing through waves of robotic and demonic foes.
Yakumo is not just a sidekick but a fully capable companion, showcasing skills that perfectly match Ryu’s. The game promises that signature cyberpunk feel fans of Ninja Gaiden are familiar with. Throughout its ups and downs, the series consistently produced standout entries that have garnered a dedicated following. Team Ninja’s track record over the past decade, especially with the Nioh and Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty games, only adds to the anticipation.
The first look at Ninja Gaiden 4 highlights some of the dynamic and fluid movement that made those other games so successful. When the movement hits the right note, everything else beautifully falls into place.
Scheduled for a Fall 2025 release, Ninja Gaiden 4 will also be available on Game Pass from day one. While you wait, check out our recommendations for top soulslike and roguelike games to keep your skills sharp.
