Netflix has just given us a fresh sneak peek at its upcoming animated series based on the legendary “Devil May Cry” franchise. This new anime, from the creative minds of Adi Shankar and Studio Mir, is set to open with a bang by featuring Limp Bizkit’s hit song “Rollin’” during the opening credits. It’s a bold choice that perfectly matches the energy of the show, drawing from the explosive era of the early 2000s when both the original “Devil May Cry” game and Limp Bizkit’s third album took the world by storm. While purists might have a soft spot for the series’ original soundtrack, “Rollin’” undeniably captures that vibrant, rebellious spirit of the time.
In addition to this exciting reveal, Netflix has also confirmed that fans can start watching the series on April 3. Originally expected to land in 2024, this earlier release date is a welcome surprise for those eagerly anticipating Dante’s animated return.
The series is executive produced by Adi Shankar, known for projects like “Castlevania” and “Captain Laserhawk,” with a script by Alex Larsen, who previously worked on “Yasuke.” Spanning eight episodes, this adaptation will dive into the story of a younger Dante, drawing inspiration from 2005’s “Devil May Cry 3: Dante’s Awakening.” Studio Mir, the animation company behind visually stunning works such as “The Legend of Korra,” “The Boondocks,” “Young Justice,” and “Harley Quinn,” brings their expertise to this eagerly awaited series.
Rooted in Capcom’s iconic action franchise, “Devil May Cry” originated 23 years ago under the direction of game designer Hideki Kamiya, who has recently announced his return to the “Okami” series. Although it’s been a little over five years since the release of “Devil May Cry 5,” fans are holding out hope that it won’t be the last installment in this beloved game series.
