Meta’s Vice President of XR, Mark Rabkin, is stepping down after being at the helm of the company’s XR projects for over four years. The decision to leave stems from personal family health matters that need his attention.
Today, Rabkin shared that he intends to exit his role by March. In a public statement, he mentioned, “To developers and fans of XR, rest assured that you’ll be in capable hands. More updates to follow.” This suggests that we can expect an announcement soon regarding his successor.
During his tenure as Meta’s VP of XR, Rabkin played a pivotal role in launching the Quest 3, Quest 3S, and rolling out key platform innovations. These included the renaming of Quest’s software to Horizon OS, integrating App Lab into the Horizon OS store, and emphasizing mixed reality and spatial computing on Meta’s headsets.
While his most recent title at Meta was VP of XR, Rabkin’s journey with the company began 18 years ago. He embarked on this path back in 2007 as an enthusiastic and confident backend infrastructure C++ engineer in his twenties.
His LinkedIn profile highlights a steady rise through Meta’s ranks over the years, which eventually led him to assume VP roles. He made his foray into the XR division in 2019, initially serving as the VP of XR Experiences before being elevated to the overall VP of XR.
