My run of never spending money on Nintendo Switch Online subscriptions is finally coming to a close.
A key feature of the Nintendo Switch is wrapping up soon, just after the re-release of Xenoblade Chronicles X. Another, however, will not be compatible with the anticipated Switch 2.
Tonight, Nintendo revealed that it will cease the My Nintendo Gold program starting March 25 at 12:59 a.m. ET. This program has been popular for allowing users to earn 1% back on physical first-party releases during their initial year, credited as eShop funds, alongside an automatic 5% return on all eShop purchases. There is an exception—physical games released from March 25, 2024, until the year’s end will still qualify for this offer, covering titles from Endless Ocean: Luminous to Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition. However, upcoming titles like Pokemon Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond won’t be eligible.
Moreover, changes are also coming to the Switch Online Vouchers program. The updated support page confirms that these vouchers will not be usable for Switch 2 games. Nintendo Switch Online subscribers have been able to purchase voucher pairs for $99 in the U.S. or equivalent, redeemable for first-party titles. Fortunately, these vouchers remain valid for future releases on the original Switch, including Legends Z-A and Prime 4.
