The team behind Skyblivion, the ambitious modding project aiming to recreate The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion within Skyrim’s more modern engine, has exciting news. They’ve just completed the landscaping for every region of their expansive Cyrodiil map.
Of course, there’s still a lot on their plate before they can meet their 2025 release target, but this progress marks a significant step in the right direction.
In a tweet, the team excitedly shared, “With the Niben Basin and Valley complete, all of Cyrodiil’s landscape has had at least a first pass. Next up: Improve previously worked areas of the map to bring them to higher standards.”
This update follows their recent announcement, where they said they were putting the finishing touches on the world map, with only the Nibenay region on Cyrodiil’s eastern border remaining. So, that’s another tick on the to-do list.
However, from what the modders have shared, there’s still a lot of refining to be done in terms of navigating spaces, known as “navmeshing.” This is crucial to prevent characters from getting hopelessly stuck on every little obstacle, much like they did in the original Skyrim or Oblivion games.
The team is also hard at work on interior details, with a focus on complex quest locations. As of last month, six quests still hadn’t been started, so there’s plenty to keep them busy.
They’re actively seeking skilled volunteers who can contribute to the project. If you’re interested in lending a hand, they’d love to hear from you.
