In a move that’s bound to excite gamers, Sony has announced a permanent price drop for the PSVR 2, which will take effect next month. This PlayStation 5 and PC-compatible virtual reality headset is set to be reduced to $400.
It’s been nearly two years since Sony first launched the PSVR 2, initially priced at $550. Surprisingly, the news of the price cut didn’t make waves during Sony’s recent State of Play, which took place two weeks ago. Nevertheless, starting in March, the PSVR 2 will be available at a lower price of $400 / €450 / £400 / ¥66,980.
This new pricing applies to both the standard PSVR bundle—which comes with the headset, a pair of Sense controllers, and headphones—and the Horizon Call of the Mountain bundle, which was previously introduced at $600 when it debuted in February 2023.

It’s worth mentioning that throughout the past, PSVR 2 has been offered at even deeper discounts. For instance, in November 2024, Sony temporarily reduced the price of the Horizon Call of the Mountain bundle to $350, suggesting there might still be room for future savings.
Despite announcing some notable PSVR 2 content, such as Skydance’s Behemoth, Metro Awakening VR, and Alien: Rogue Incursion, along with upcoming games like Aces of Thunder, Dreams of Another, Hitman World of Assassination, and The Midnight Walk, Sony hasn’t fully committed to its PSVR 2 platform.
In terms of first-party games, Sony’s offerings for PSVR 2 have been limited. Titles include Horizon Call of the Mountain, and VR modes for Gran Turismo 7, Resident Evil Village, and Resident Evil 4 Remake. This is a stark contrast to the wealth of titles available for the original PSVR, launched in 2016, which boasted games like Astro Bot Rescue Mission, Blood & Truth, and VR modes for Gran Turismo Sport and Resident Evil 7: Biohazard.
On the upside, Sony provided a $60 PC Adapter for PSVR 2 back in August, allowing users to connect to a VR-ready PC and access titles like Half-Life: Alyx and Fallout 4 VR. However, it seems this is part of Sony’s broader strategy to gradually separate the PSVR 2 from being strictly tied to the PS5 ecosystem.
Looking ahead, it’s possible that further discounts could boost PSVR 2 sales, reminiscent of what’s occurred during past holiday seasons. This scenario could attract PS5 owners eager to experience a range of exceptional games, alongside an ever-growing lineup of third-party titles. If a discount similar to last Black Friday’s 42% off occurs, the PSVR 2 price could plummet to just $232, making it an irresistible buy.
Update (February 27th, 2025): The Euro price has been corrected to €450, previously misreported as €550.
