Last October, Ballistic Moon took on the ambitious project of remaking the cherished PS4 horror title, Until Dawn, for the PS5. The intention was to breathe new life into Supermassive’s classic with enhanced graphics and gameplay. Unfortunately, the remake didn’t quite hit the bullseye, marred by various problems that left fans underwhelmed. Now, word has it that the studio is now “effectively closed.”
## Ballistic Moon “Effectively Closed” Post-Remake
A fresh update from Insider Gaming paints a grim picture: around 40 staff members were let go in September 2024, post-launch, leaving the remaining employees to handle game support. Fast forward to December, and the studio shed another 20 employees. Now, it seems only the founders and a sparse support staff are holding the fort. That’s not all—the report highlights that their PR, marketing, and dev teams have been completely wiped.
“Players are sending in reports about bugs, hoping to get them fixed, but there’s nobody handling those anymore,” an insider shared with Insider Gaming. “The studio has, for all intents and purposes, shut down.”
Insiders mention that Ballistic Moon’s leadership tried to secure funding and pitch new projects but came up short on both fronts. Despite these hurdles, it seems the studio wasn’t a bad place to work, according to the majority of former employees. Yet, tales of unpaid overtime are making the rounds, with some claims of weeks-long payment delays.
As of now, there’s no clear indication of whether Ballistic Moon will close permanently.
On a different Until Dawn note, Sony Pictures Entertainment dropped the first teaser for their movie adaptation in January. It appears to share little with the original 2015 game, apart from its title. Directed by David F. Sandberg, and starring talents like Ella Rubin, Odessa A’zion, and Michael Cimino, the film is set to hit theaters exclusively on April 25.
