Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is set to make its debut on June 26, exclusively for PlayStation 5. The exciting news was revealed by the renowned game director and founder of Kojima Productions, Hideo Kojima, during a SXSW 2025 panel, where he also treated fans to an extensive new trailer.
This fresh 10-minute trailer dives deep into Death Stranding 2, featuring both familiar and new faces. Norman Reedus is back in his role as Sam Bridges, the enigmatic hero of this peculiar tale. Returning alongside him are Léa Seydoux as Fragile and Troy Baker as Higgs. Joining the cast are newcomers Elle Fanning as Tomorrow, Shioli Kutsuna as Rainy, and George Miller as Tarman. Additionally, Luca Marinelli steps in as Neil, Debra Wilson takes on Doctor, and Alissa Jung portrays Lucy. Notably, there’s a special cameo by Korean action star Lee Dong-seok, also known as Don Lee.
The trailer is peppered with nods to Kojima’s legendary Metal Gear Solid series. At one point, Marinelli’s character, Neil, bears a striking resemblance to Solid Snake, while an enormous tar creature merging with the DHV Magellan transforms into what Kojima refers to as the Magellan Man, evoking memories of Metal Gear’s iconic machines. For fans of the franchise, there are plenty of thrilling gameplay segments and intriguing story elements to explore.
In this latest installment, Death Stranding 2 is set 11 months post the formation of the United Cities of America. With servers now lining the beaches and deliveries automated, porters like Sam face job challenges. However, chiralium from the Beach continues to wreak havoc on the environment—cats included—and a sinister new faction is on the rise. Yet, Sam remains undeterred in his mission.
Kojima previously shared, during the first trailer’s reveal at the 2022 Game Awards, that the COVID-19 pandemic inspired him to rework the script. The story continues the saga across a post-apocalyptic America, still haunted by menacing Beached Things.
A follow-up trailer revealed during last year’s State of Play event showed the disbandment of Sam’s former delivery company, Bridges, with the emergence of a new entity, Drawbridge. But as we’ve come to expect from Kojima, many plot details remain shrouded in mystery.
