Last Thursday was a remarkable day for Bigscreen, as their latest headset, Bigscreen Beyond 2, flew off the virtual shelves at an astounding rate. Compared to its predecessor, Beyond 1, this new PC VR headset smashed records, selling in a single day what it had previously taken six months to achieve with Beyond 1.
The numbers speak volumes about the buzz surrounding Beyond 2. In just the first 25 minutes, its sales eclipsed the entire first day sales of Beyond 1. The momentum didn’t stop there; within just an hour, the sales doubled what the original headset achieved on its launch day. By the ten-hour mark, Beyond 2’s sales had already surpassed the first four months of its predecessor’s performance.
Bigscreen’s founder and CEO, Darshan Shankar, shared an impressive stat on X (formerly known as Twitter) the following Friday that captures the success perfectly: “In the first 24 hours, Beyond 2 has sold 10 TIMES as many Beyond 1s sold on its launch day 2 years ago. In the first 24 hours, Beyond 2 has sold as much as Beyond 1 did in its first 6 months of sales. That’s exceptional.”
What’s particularly noteworthy is that this achievement was made without traditional advertising. Shankar emphasized, “We didn’t pay influencers to pump our product. We didn’t pay an agency for an expensive video. No advertising.” Instead, they opted to strategically deliver a few early samples of Beyond 2 to select reviewers. Around 10 units were given to notable names like Tested, Thrillseeker, MRTV, and VR Flight Sim Guy to get the word out in an organic way.
For those who haven’t heard yet, Beyond 2 is available with or without eye-tracking features, labeled as Beyond 2e and Beyond 2, respectively. They’re priced at $1,019 and $1,219. While it retains the same dual 1-inch 2,560 × 2,560 micro-OLED displays from the original, it boasts significant improvements. One of the most talked-about upgrades is the wider field-of-view (FOV) and enhanced clarity, courtesy of a new pancake lens design. This boosts the FOV to 116 degrees diagonally, up from the 102-degree FOV of the original. In addition, it features an adjustable IPD mechanism and is lighter, weighing in at just 107g.
Initially, orders for Beyond 2 were set to ship in April, with the Beyond 2e expected in May. However, due to the overwhelming demand, new orders for both models are currently slated to ship in June.
