Meta has just inked a significant multiyear partnership with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), bagging the title of ‘Official Fan Technology Partner.’ This collaboration signals a deeper integration of UFC’s electric mixed martial arts showdowns into Meta’s platforms, including Quest.
UFC is eager to tap into Meta’s cutting-edge technology to engage its global fanbase like never before. This includes leveraging Meta AI, Meta Glasses, Meta Quest, and their popular social platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Threads.
In a fascinating turn, UFC and Meta have also declared Meta as the ‘Official AI Glasses Partner.’ They’re geared up to use these revolutionary AI glasses in inventive ways during UFC events, promising a thrilling new perspective for fans.
UFC President and CEO Dana White shares his enthusiasm: “Over the years, I’ve had some incredible partners who’ve helped this sport flourish, but Mark and his team at Meta are about to astound our fans. With the brightest minds in technology leading the charge, Meta is all set to redefine fan engagement. Already, we’re collaborating on innovative concepts, including a revamped fighter ranking system that I’ll reveal soon. Brace yourselves; the upcoming years are going to be revolutionary for our sport’s followers.”
It’s easy to see why this partnership is a natural match, given Meta’s founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s passion for the sport. Over time, he’s become an avid fan, even participating in Jiu Jitsu competitions. “This sport excites me, and I’m thrilled to partner with the UFC to enhance fans’ experiences in novel ways,” Zuckerberg expressed.
In January, White also saw a new role as he joined Meta’s board of directors, alongside notable figures like John Elkann, CEO of Exor, and tech investor Charlie Songhurst.
What does all this mean for the Quest platform? While specifics are still pending, Meta plans to incorporate UFC elements into Pay-Per-Views and Fight Nights. Expect everything from the brand presence inside the iconic Octagon to multiple broadcast features and innovative fan experiences in the arenas.
Threads, Meta’s social platform, is also getting in on the action, set to host exclusive original content from the UFC.
Back in 2022, UFC and Meta first joined forces to stream 180-degree Fight Pass events on Horizon Worlds and the Xtadium app via Quest’s social VR platform. With this expanded partnership, we might soon see UFC fights gaining even more traction on Quest.
Stay tuned, as more details about this forward-thinking partnership are on the horizon.
