Bungie has just unveiled its exciting new extraction shooter, Marathon. Today’s reveal gives us our first proper glimpse of the gameplay, and they’ve announced that the game will be arriving on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S come September 23rd, 2025.
In the world of Marathon, you’ll choose to become a Runner—cybernetic mercenaries armed with special abilities. You’ll team up with two other players to take on hostile AI security forces and competing Runner teams. As you progress, you’ll gather weapons, implants, and equipment, all of which you can keep for future endeavors if you make it out alive.
The core gameplay drops you and your team into a zone where the ultimate goal is to collect as much loot as possible and survive the ordeal. You’ll face threats from AI units and other player teams, and the prize is keeping everything you’ve gathered for future missions. For those thirsting for more challenge, there’s even an option to go solo, taking down entire teams by yourself and making off with all the loot.
