ILM and Lucasfilm have recently unveiled some exciting gameplay footage for their much-anticipated Quest 3 title, Star Wars: Beyond Victory – A Mixed Reality Playset. This new game promises a dynamic experience by blending both virtual and mixed reality elements.
In collaboration with Meta, the developers offered a sneak peek to fans attending the ‘Star Wars Celebration 2025,’ held from April 18-20 in Tokyo, Japan. Alongside the gameplay demonstration, they released an intriguing teaser that has heightened anticipation for this project.
Still in the works, Star Wars: Beyond Victory is set in the same timeline as Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018). The creators have revealed that gamers can look forward to engaging in three distinct modes when the game makes its debut on Quest 3 and 3S.
One of the standout features includes a hybrid VR/MR story mode centered around the podracer known as ‘Volo.’ There’s also a thrilling arcade mode introducing mini-podracing on a mixed reality holotable. Additionally, players can enjoy a ‘playset’ mode where they can spruce up their physical surroundings using a collection of unlockable virtual action figures and vehicles.
Alyssa Finley, the game’s Executive Producer, shared her enthusiasm by saying, “We’re calling this a Playset because it isn’t just a game; it’s an entirely new way to experience the Star Wars galaxy and the worlds we create at ILM. This new mixed reality experience blends the physical and digital worlds in a way that’s unlike anything we’ve done before, and we’re so excited to share a special first look with our incredible Star Wars community.”
For those attending the event at the Makuhari Messe in Tokyo, starting Friday, there’s an opportunity to explore Star Wars: Beyond Victory hands-on at the ILM and Meta Quest booth in Hall 4, Booth #20-5. Visitors can also check out the studio’s previous XR titles, such as Vader Immortal and Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge.
Although there’s no official release date, ILM’s track record suggests we’ll be receiving periodic updates, so keep an eye out for more details as they come.
