Minisforum recently unveiled its next-generation products powered by AMD’s Ryzen CPUs, featuring the impressive Ryzen 9 9955HX “Fire Range” chip, showcased during the “Japan IT Spring Week.” These new offerings include a Mobile on Desktop (MoTD) motherboard and a compact Mini PC, expanding the company’s line-up in exciting ways.
First up, let’s talk about the Minisforum F1FGM motherboard crafted for desktop enthusiasts. Continuing the MoTD line with an updated CPU, this motherboard flaunts a mATX layout, cooled by heat sinks strategically placed over the VRMs, M.2 slots, PCH, and an IO cover. It’s the successor to the BD770i and BD790i series, now hosting the latest Fire Range “Ryzen 9000HX” CPUs instead of the prior Dragon Range “Ryzen 7000HX” models.
Equipped with the AMD Ryzen 9 9955HX CPU, this motherboard promises a powerhouse performance with its 16 cores and 32 threads built on the Zen 5 architecture. The chip reaches boost speeds of up to 5.4 GHz and includes a hefty 64 MB of L3 cache. Defaulting at 55W, it can be tuned up to 160W for a truly high-end experience, transforming this mobile chip into a desktop powerhouse.
Moreover, there’s a plan to offer configurations with “X3D” options, and to manage the cooling, a vapor chamber baseplate will replace the missing IHS typical in mobile CPUs. The board integrates a 13-phase Duet rail VRM design with robust 60A SPS power stages. On the specs side, it houses four DDR5 DIMM slots supporting up to 256 GB of RAM at speeds up to 8000 MT/s. Its mobile-grade X870M chipset competes closely with the B850 series, filled with features like USB4, 5GbE LAN, WIFI7, and two BIOS DEBUG LEDs, along with two PCIe slots and three M.2 slots ready for Gen5x4 speed.
Switching gears to the Minisforum MS-A2 Mini PC, this compact machine takes advantage of the Ryzen 9000HX “Fire Range” CPUs, building on the legacy of the earlier MS-A1 series. It stands out with updated IO solutions like three M.2 slots (with U.2 support), a 10 GbE LAN port via SFP+, and a PCIe 4.0 x8 slot, ideal for low-profile cards.
The Mini PC’s motherboard differs slightly, providing two SO-DIMM slots for up to 96 GB of RAM at 5200 MT/s. Connectivity is abundant with two USB 3.2 Gen Type-C, two USB 3.2 Gen 2, alongside one USB 2.0, dual 10 GbE LAN, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.0, plus DP and HDMI outputs.
Rounding off the new introductions is the Strix-enhanced “N5 PRO” NAS system, boasting the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 CPU with 12 cores and 24 threads, complemented by a Radeon 890M iGPU. This NAS appeals to power users with its toolless design for easy management of up to five 3.5-inch bays, configurable in RAID, and a generous 48 GB DDR5 SO-DIMM capacity.
Each bay can accommodate drives up to 22 TB, enhanced by three PCIe 4.0 M.2 slots for further expansion. Interfaces include 10 GbE and 5 GbE Ethernet ports with USB 3.2 Gen1 connections.
Expect these cutting-edge Minisforum products to hit the market in the coming months, offering gamers and professionals alike new possibilities for high-performance computing. Keep an eye out for their release!
