Okay, so let’s talk about a pretty intriguing project in the gaming world. While there have been countless attempts to blend elements from one Fallout game into another, this latest venture takes it to a whole new level. A fan is creating a version of Fallout: New Vegas within The Sims 2, and it just might be one of the most fitting adaptations yet. This ambitious fan-made “remaster” is dubbed The Sims 2: New Vegas, and it’s a prime example of the creative wonders that emerge when Fallout enthusiasts have some spare time.
The project is still a work in progress, but there’s already a dedicated subreddit—it was highlighted by TheGamer—where a creator who goes by the name Baron Pulitzer (also known as FalloutPropMaster) is sharing their journey. By day, Pulitzer runs an independent film production company. For about a week now, they’ve been chronicling their efforts on this unique crossover.
In an introductory post, Pulitzer explained their impatience for an official remaster of Fallout: New Vegas. They shared their aspiration for a version that revisits some of the cut content from the game’s beta phase. The inspiration struck after discovering a few uploads by a ModTheSims user, ‘lilipad,’ who had crafted some New Vegas Strip casinos for The Sims 2. Motivated by these mods, Pulitzer embarked on recreating New Vegas in The Sims 2, despite having only previously modded Fallout 3 and New Vegas, never The Sims. It’s also become a learning opportunity for them.
During the past week, Pulitzer revisited some old tools like Milkshape, FOMM, Blender, and Nifscope—software they hadn’t used in over ten years. This journey has not only been a delightful, if a bit somber, walk down memory lane but also the perfect way to spend their free time.
So far, Pulitzer has shared progress on mapping out the Mojave Wasteland neighborhood, including iconic spots like The Strip and Freeside. They’ve also recreated Goodsprings’ Prospector Saloon—a logical starting point for such a project. In terms of characters, we’ve seen everyone’s favorite Legion wolf hat guy, Vulpes Inculta, hanging out with some ghouls and engaging in a casual kickball game. There’s also a household of companions, likely swapping tales about escapades involving a certain postman using them as human shields while frantically chugging stimpaks.
A recent update revealed a revamped version of The Sims 2’s user interface, styled with a classic Fallout flair, which is undeniably cool.
This creation is worth keeping an eye on, especially for those revisiting The Sims 2 through the Legacy Collection remaster. If you ever find yourself longing for another wacky journey through the Mojave, perhaps as a cannibal scheming to devour Mr. House while inadvertently becoming notorious during a Caesar salad munching session, this fan project might just scratch that itch. And who knows? It might be the perfect excuse to take the independent Vegas route, free from NCR scrutiny. Just a little something to think about!
