Schell Games and Innersloth have some exciting news for fans of Among Us: flatscreen support is on the way for Among Us VR (2022). This means PC and VR players can finally team up, thanks to new crossplay capabilities.
They’re also changing things up by rebranding the VR version to Among Us 3D. This update brings the first-person experience to PC gamers for the very first time, promising a fresh spin on this beloved game.
According to Schell Games, Among Us 3D will allow PC players to dive into cross-platform lobbies with their VR counterparts. It’s compatible with all major VR platforms like Quest, SteamVR, PSVR 2, and Pico headsets.
It’s worth noting, though, that Among Us 3D won’t be backward compatible with the original 2D game that launched back in 2018. When Among Us VR made its debut in November 2022, it was clear that the VR path was going to be its own distinct adventure.
Ryan Hall, the Project Director at Schell Games, shared his enthusiasm: "With Among Us 3D, we’re thrilled to invite even more players into the first-person perspective. Bringing VR and PC gamers together opens up endless possibilities for those thrilling betrayals and strategic gameplay. Now, an even bigger crew can join in on the fun!"
This rebranding effort will unfold over the next few months. Players can expect to see changes reflected across store pages, websites, and even within the game itself.
An additional treat for players will be the introduction of a new in-game currency called ‘Stardust’. This will enable players to snag cosmetic items and contribute to the game’s expansion.
While a specific launch date hasn’t been set, players won’t have to wait too long. Among Us 3D is set to make an appearance at the Steam Next Fest, offering an exclusive early demo for eager players to dive into before the official launch.
