The online multiplayer for the classic VR game Arizona Sunshine is set to conclude this coming July, due to Unity’s decision to stop supporting the UNet Service.
Since its debut in 2016, the original Arizona Sunshine has been a staple for VR enthusiasts, particularly for its online multiplayer mode. However, developer Vertigo Games has announced that support for this feature will cease on July 1, 2025. The move is in response to the winding down of the UNet Service, which has been essential for the game’s online play.
For those who may not know, UNet was Unity Engine’s go-to solution for multiplayer experiences, but it began fading out of favor in 2019. Unity’s recent updates have confirmed that come July 7, 2025, UNet services will no longer be available to game developers, which likely prompted Vertigo Games to take preemptive action.
Despite the end of multiplayer support, fans of Arizona Sunshine need not worry about the single-player campaign; access to it remains unchanged. Additionally, the shutdown will not impact the online multiplayer functionalities in Arizona Sunshine Remake and the upcoming Arizona Sunshine 2. To ease the transition, Vertigo is providing a $10 upgrade offer for the Remake version, available to those who own the original game on Quest, PlayStation, or Steam on the same platform.
