VR enthusiasts have embraced Blade & Sorcery as a staple combat simulator, reaching its milestone with the 1.0 launch in June 2024. Although wrapping up its development, the creative minds at Warpfrog are already gearing up for their next project, promising another highly moddable game, much like their groundbreaking physics combat experience.
While details remain scarce, Warpfrog has confirmed to Road to VR that their next endeavor will also be a VR title. It promises to carry the distinctive Warpfrog touch with physics-based interactions and immersive simulation at its core. Moreover, the studio assured fans that this new venture will be “highly moddable in the same way Blade & Sorcery is.”
Blade & Sorcery has gained popularity for its user-friendly modding system. Gamers can tweak small features like adding extra sparks when weapons clash or even introduce new maps and weapons through tools like the Nexus Mod Manager, enhancing the game experience significantly.
Back in October, Warpfrog discussed with Meta their plans for a new framework for the upcoming game. This initiative arose from pushing the original framework to its limits during Blade & Sorcery’s extended early access period.
“We’ve had to clear out some spaghetti code and scale up. Essentially, we’re starting fresh with a new engine. We started developing a new framework that’s much faster, and for the first time, we’re creating a game from A to Z with a full team,” the developers shared.
Expectations are high for Warpfrog’s next chapter. What began as a solo venture under the direction of developer ‘KospY’ has evolved into a bustling team of nearly 30 talented individuals.
The 1.0 update in June introduced the ‘Crystal Hunt’ story mode, transforming Blade & Sorcery from a mere combat sandbox into a riveting adventure game. Now, it boasts intricate upgrade systems, a compelling narrative, and a richly interconnected world.
In a heartfelt Steam news update, the studio expressed their enthusiasm for the future: “As for where Warpfrog is headed… this is where the fun begins… With the wealth of experience gained over the past five years, we’re eager to reveal what we’re working on next. Your support has allowed the studio to pursue the development of bigger, better games.”
