This week marks a significant moment for Nintendo fans as the much-anticipated reveal of the Nintendo Switch 2 is finally set to happen, putting a stop to the swirling rumors and leaks that have kept the gaming community buzzing.
This information comes from a trusted insider, Nate, who shared insights on Nintendo’s plans during the latest episode of the Nate the Hate Podcast, specifically around the 17-minute mark.
“I can confidently say that the Nintendo Switch 2 will be unveiled next week,” Nate mentioned. “I’ve been informed that the announcement is scheduled for Thursday, January 16.”
He added that the reveal is just days away from when the podcast airs. “I’ve caught wind of a few details regarding what the reveal will entail. These tidbits seem a bit incomplete to me, but maybe everything will fall into place once the announcement is official.”
Nate explained that the focus will be mainly on the console itself. “There won’t be an emphasis on games,” he said. “While you might catch a glimpse of a game on the screen or perhaps a TV, the software won’t take center stage. So, if the trailer skips on games, don’t be too shocked.”
He further speculated, “I imagine it could be akin to the October 2016 reveal, which highlighted several games like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. There was also a showcase of Skyrim, NBA 2K18, and Splatoon 2, although their names were not officially announced until months later.”
However, Nate believes this reveal won’t mirror that level of game showcase intensity. “I suspect it will be more along the lines of ‘Here’s the system,’ ‘Here’s how it functions along with the Joy-Con,’ showcasing the new logo and possibly the packaging.”
According to what Nate’s heard, following the console reveal, there’s a plan for late February or early March to host a software showcase. “That’s when we’re likely to see the third-party and Nintendo games for the Switch 2, showcasing this new hardware alongside the gameplay.”
Despite all the circulating speculation, we do know officially from Nintendo that by March 2025, they’ll unveil the Switch’s successor, boasting backward compatibility with the original. And with a worldwide release anticipated for 2025, excitement is rapidly building around this forthcoming landmark in gaming.
