MSI has firmly denied the recent rumors regarding a supposed recall of NVIDIA’s RTX 5090 due to fire hazard concerns, emphasizing that the retailer spreading this information is not an official partner.
### MSI Refutes RTX 5090 Recall Claims; Plans Legal Action Against Misleading Retailer
Yesterday, news broke from a Dutch retailer that NVIDIA was allegedly recalling the GeForce RTX 5090, citing fears of a potential “fire hazard,” specifically mentioning the MSI SUPRIM variant. Naturally, such claims caused a stir in the tech world. In response, MSI quickly issued a statement to set the record straight:
“We were unpleasantly surprised to discover, via an article on the Kitguru website dated 03/06/2025, that UW GAME SPECIALIST—a retailer in the Netherlands—was allegedly unable to fulfill a customer order because they claimed that 5 GeForce RTX 5090 32G Suprim SOC cards had been recalled over fire risk concerns,” MSI clarified.
They continued, “We want to unequivocally state that these allegations are completely false. There is no recall program underway, and our products do not pose such risks. Additionally, this retailer is not an authorized partner of MSI, and we have no association with them.”
MSI further stated its intention to take legal steps against those spreading these defamatory claims, as well as anyone who aids in propagating such false information.
The company advised consumers to purchase exclusively from their authorized resellers for peace of mind, listing reputable sellers such as Megekko, Azerty, Alternate NL, Alternate BE, SHS, CPS, PDC, Bol, Coolblue, and Copaco.
While the rumor has been thoroughly debunked and a potential issue with NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 5090 avoided, it highlights the importance of dealing with credible sources. The RTX 50 series is already tackling supply chain challenges and other minor issues like missing ROPs or occasional black screen incidents.
For now, consumers can rest easy knowing their RTX 5090s are safe from burning out as MSI assures no such problem exists. Nonetheless, it’s always wise for users to ensure the proper setup and handling of their high-performance RTX Blackwell GPUs.
