Hello, gaming enthusiasts! I’m Mike Tucker, the design director and programmer over at Bitmap Bureau, and I’m thrilled to be the one bringing you some exciting news from our team. We’ve got an officially licensed 2D action-packed side-scrolling game, “Terminator 2D: No Fate,” hitting the shelves on September 5 for PS5 and PS4!
Our team poured heart and soul into crafting epic arcade gameplay, wrapped up in mesmerizing pixel art. These are the ingredients that truly ignite our passion for gaming, and we wanted to pay homage to the legendary Terminator 2 saga through this venture.
As a nod to the glorious arcade days of the ’80s and ’90s, “Terminator 2D: No Fate” is our love letter to the feeling those classic games evoked. My ambition was to design the ultimate T2 side-scroller, the kind we all longed for during our younger years. Players will dive into thrilling missions with Sarah Connor, John Connor, and the T-800, revisiting the epic events of Terminator 2: Judgment Day and taking its story even further.
When it comes to the legend himself, John Connor, we found great joy in crafting the future war missions. These scenarios give players command over an adult John Connor as a leader in the Resistance. The glimpses we got of John’s command in T2 left us eager to flesh out his character. His gameplay leans into strategic combat, juggling plasma rifles, pipe bombs, and varied ammo types. While he might not be as agile as Sarah, his tactical roll provides a nifty dodge move.
And then there’s the T-800, a cinematic powerhouse. We made sure his in-game presence mirrors that imposing demeanor, moving with purpose. His slower speed is easily offset by incredible durability; he can withstand quite the beating before going down. Creating his segments, from the Corral bar brawl to the daring motorcycle escape from the T-1000, brought iconic moments back to life in a fresh 2D arcade style.
Speaking of T-1000, this villain remains iconic, thanks in no small part to Robert Patrick’s chilling portrayal. His mannerisms, from a slow, menacing walk to a relentless sprint, were crucial elements to capture. Our animators have done wonders bringing his liquid metal tricks to life in pixel form, and you’ll feel the tension he creates when you encounter him in-game.
Being involved with a title that connects so deeply to such a cherished cinematic universe has been nothing short of an honor. Terminator 2’s characters are icons, and we hope that both old fans and new players will enjoy stepping into their shoes as much as we enjoyed crafting their stories.
So mark your calendars—”Terminator 2D: No Fate” is arriving soon on PS5 and PS4, set to launch on September 5. We can’t wait for you all to experience it!
