NVIDIA enthusiasts, brace yourselves for a bit of a wait if you’re planning on grabbing the RTX 5090 or 5080 GPUs from Overclockers UK. It could be several weeks to even a few months before you can get your hands on these coveted graphics cards.
The launch of NVIDIA’s RTX 50 series was quite the chaotic event, more like a ‘paper launch’ than anything else. Many shops didn’t receive even a single unit of the RTX 5090, let alone enough to satisfy demand. Those fortunate enough to get any in stock saw their allotment disappear in mere minutes once the sales embargo was lifted. The RTX 5080 was snatched up just as quickly, despite its marginally better availability and lukewarm generational improvements.
For those eagerly awaiting the chance to buy either card, patience is required. Overclockers UK has announced that, not only are the RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 sold out, but they’ve also stopped taking pre-orders. Essentially, you can’t even secure a spot in line for these GPUs right now. So when can we expect them back on the shelves?
According to Overclockers UK, the RTX 5090 might take anywhere from 3 to 16 weeks to be restocked, whereas the RTX 5080 is likely to return sooner, in about 2 to 6 weeks. If the RTX 5090 takes the full 16 weeks, we’re looking at a release before mid-2025, possibly around May. By then, NVIDIA plans to launch the RTX 5070 Ti and RTX 5070, with the former set for a February 20th debut and the latter in March.
In a stock update from Overclockers UK dated January 31, 2025, they confirmed these timelines due to the overwhelming demand and limited initial supply. The mad rush for the RTX 50 series cards left many disappointed shortly after their launch.
Even though the RTX 5080 could return to stores as early as next month, the limited availability only partially met the massive demand. Despite offering lower generations of improvement compared to the RTX 5090, its appeal was heightened by retaining the same price as its predecessor. This had enthusiasts lining up outside stores, and in some cases, retailers resorted to a lottery system for buying rights.
Currently, some lucky buyers on the pre-order list from Overclockers UK might see their orders stuck in a queue without a confirmation email. That’s the main reason why the retailer paused its pre-order process. How soon these graphics cards will find their way back into shops worldwide remains uncertain, but it’s safe to bet that a dose of patience will be necessary.
