Phasmophobia, the co-op ghost hunting sensation, has been a staple on Twitch since 2020, and according to developers Kinetic Games, it has now surpassed 22 million copies sold. Looking ahead to 2025, the team is preparing an ambitious slate of updates, including a fresh facelift for the game’s rather ordinary player character models. Here’s a glimpse into the planned enhancements coming this year, fresh from their latest announcement.
The standout update for Phasmaphobia this year has been dubbed the Chronicle update. Information about this was previously shared in a developer blog post. Kinetic Games is set to overhaul how players collect evidence—things like fluctuations in ghostly temperatures and unsettling sounds will now be saved for future reference. This update will replace the Photos tab with a new Media tab, making it incredibly useful during chaotic excursions—especially if your squad is more focused on screaming and arguing than documenting their experience.
Additionally, developers are adding layers to the data collection process. Your first capture of any evidence type will be labeled as Unique, earning you significant rewards at the end of a mission. However, repeated captures will offer less incentive, encouraging players to diversify their methods and build a broad array of evidence.
Soon after, the Player Character Overhaul will make its entrance. Currently, fans choose from a limited selection of avatars, none particularly distinctive. However, the roadmap hints at new customization options, including different tops—potentially allowing players to swap out their look between missions. It’s about time, considering the current selection mostly comprises plain and rather forgettable attire.
As the year progresses, Kinetic Games also plans to introduce a new, smaller map, reminiscent of existing house settings. Existing maps like Bleasdale and Grafton Farmhouses are also set for a major revamp, adding new rooms for spectral inhabitants to lurk in. Holiday-themed updates are also in the pipeline, with Easter and Halloween events confirmed. Looking further ahead, a curious “Horror 2.0” feature caught my attention, hinting at exciting developments planned for 2026.
