Stress Level Zero’s BONELAB (2022) has really made waves on the Quest platform. It’s their physics-driven sandbox game that has captivated many, though for fans of BONEWORKS (2019), there’s been noticeable anticipation for it to leap onto Meta’s latest standalone headsets. Thankfully, that’s exactly what’s on the horizon.
For those unfamiliar, Boneworks is quite the adventure when experienced with a PC VR headset. It combines an engaging storyline with ground-breaking experimental physics mechanics. The game is anything but ordinary, drawing players into an immersive experience where you navigate through complex environments, tackle combat scenarios rich in physics interactions, and solve puzzles that challenge you to think outside the box.
Brandon Laatsch, one of the minds behind the studio, recently took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to share ambitious targets set for 2025. Among these goals are rolling out new patches for their Marrow Engine framework, specifically designed for the Unity engine, and finally bringing BONEWORKS to Quest 3 and its upgraded Quest 3S version.
Have a look at how Boneworks shapes up on Quest 3 in the demonstration below:
His post laid out a roadmap that includes not only updates for BONELAB but also plans that align Boneworks’ move to Quest 3 alongside their work on Marrow 2. In an exciting twist, the studio is also in the early stages of their next gaming project.
For those using Quest today, there’s already a workaround. A community-driven mod called ‘Labworks’ allows Boneworks to be played on Quest 2 and newer models, a testament to the dedication of modders like ‘volx64’, who invested two years into making this port a reality.
While this mod remains available to fans, Laatsch emphasized that the native release on Quest 3 will offer a significant enhancement over a mere port. The Marrow Engine is primed to introduce substantial changes, promising a richer gaming experience.
We’re eagerly waiting for more news, though there’s no concrete release schedule just yet. For the latest, keep a watchful eye on Laatsch’s posts on X and the studio’s updates on YouTube.
