In light of the current economic challenges such as rising inflation and unstable exchange rates, Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) has decided to increase the recommended retail price (RRP) for the PlayStation 5 console in various markets across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA), as well as in Australia and New Zealand.
Starting from April 14, the new prices for the PS5 are set as follows:
For Europe, the PS5 Digital Edition will be priced at €499.99, while the standard PS5 model with the Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive will not see any changes in its current pricing. The scenario stays similar in the UK, where the cost for the PS5 Digital Edition is now £429.99, maintaining the existing price tag for the standard version.
Across the ocean in Australia, the standard PS5 equipped with an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive will now retail for AUD $829.95, and the Digital Edition version will have a price tag of AUD $749.95. Meanwhile, in New Zealand, expect to pay NZD $949.95 for the standard PS5, and the Digital Edition will carry a price of NZD $859.95.
Notably, the RRP for the PS5 Pro remains the same, so customers purchasing that version will not feel any difference in pricing.
There’s a silver lining amid these adjustments, as the RRP for the PS5 Disc Drive has been reduced, effective April 14. The new pricing for the Disc Drive is set at €79.99 in Europe, £69.99 in the UK, AUD $124.95 in Australia, and NZD $139.95 in New Zealand.
For those located in the other select markets within the EMEA not specifically mentioned, it’s advisable to confirm any potential RRP changes with your local retailer or check on direct.playstation.com when applicable.
