It looks like the buzz around the possible starters for Pokemon Legends: Z-A just keeps growing. All signs point toward Generation 6’s Chespin, Fennekin, and Froakie being the ones you’ll get to pick from in this much-anticipated game. Although the first announcement with that sleek CG trailer last year cleared up a few things about the game, there’s still a good chunk left to the imagination.
Speaking of that trailer, it did confirm that Pokemon Legends: Z-A will transport you back to the bustling Lumiose City in the Kalos region. Players were thrilled to hear about the return of Mega Evolutions and some familiar Pokemon. However, outside of these tidbits, the rest of the game’s features remain pretty hush-hush, including the all-important starter selection.
The Pokemon Company hasn’t officially told us who the starters will be yet, but it’s hard to ignore the mounting evidence. For those who might not remember, Chespin, Fennekin, and Froakie were the cute critters you started with in Pokemon X and Y, both set in the Kalos region’s iconic Lumiose City. Credible leakers have dropped hints about their return, but it was the recent artwork at the 2025 Pokemon World Championships highlighting Chespin and Fennekin that really got fans talking.
Given that Pokemon Legends: Z-A is grounded in the Kalos setting, many expected these particular Pokemon to make a return as starters, but there’s a twist in the tale.
