I’ve got the chance to put together a review for Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island, so I reached out to Alex Kanaris-Sotiriou, co-founder of Polygon Treehouse, to chat about the game. You don’t want to miss this!
PS4Blog: Good morning! It’s great to have you join us again. How are things going on your side?
Alex: Thanks so much! It’s been quite the busy period since we launched our previous indie title, Röki. This time around, I’ve been delving into folklore and mythology from a fresh perspective with Mythwrecked. Instead of diving into Scandinavian tales, we’re asking what the Greek gods would be like if they existed in our present day!
PS4B: Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island is coming to the Nintendo Switch on December 5. Can you give us some insight into what this experience entails?
Alex: We like to call Mythwrecked an ‘explore-o-story’ game. You play as Alex, a backpacker who’s taking a much-needed break when an unforeseen storm leaves them stranded on a forgotten island. Throughout the game, you’ll build friendships with the gods of Greek mythology, help them recover their memories, and work on finding your way back home.
PS4B: When did you begin working on this project, and how has the game evolved from its initial concept to the version we’re about to play?
Alex: We kicked things off around three years ago. The core ideas were pretty solid from the get-go. Features like the radar treasure hunting and memory flashbacks haven’t really shifted. However, the ‘Story Sandbox’ element, which involves interacting and progressing conversations with the gods, took a few iterations to get right. I’m thrilled with how it ended up – it really allows players to become part of an unfolding narrative.
PS4B: Röki received a physical release. Is there a similar plan for Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island?
Alex: I’m a big fan of physical copies and was over the moon to see Röki get one. Right now, there’s no news to share about a physical version of Mythwrecked, but it’s definitely something I hope we can make happen one day.
PS4B: We’ve covered a lot today. Is there anything else you’d like to mention?
Alex: Just a huge thank you to everyone for tuning in! If you’re into cozy games, mythology, or a good mystery, we’d love for you to check out Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island. We believe it’s going to be an indie adventure you’ll remember!
