Rec Room continues to expand its library of adventures, offering experiences that players can enjoy with both friends and random participants. Their latest addition, ‘Run the Block,’ draws inspiration from the beloved Dreamcast game, Jet Set Radio, released back in 2000.
Debuting on December 11th, ‘Run the Block’ has quickly captured the attention of over a million players. In this lively multiplayer mini-game, you’ll find yourself competing against up to nine others, navigating through an urban landscape with style and flair.
While the iconic rollerblades of the early 2000s aren’t part of the package, you’ll be sprinting, leaping, and grinding across sprawling city lines. Plus, the graffiti-filled streets are yours to mark with your unique tag, adding a personal touch to the colorful chaos.
Compared to previous years, Rec Room has been more selective with its first-party releases. ‘My Little Monster,’ a pet farming simulation, stands out as their most prominent recent release. This year, they’ve also embraced collaborations, introducing branded content like avatar packs from ‘Monster High’ and Bungie’s ‘Destiny.’ A major focus has been enhancing the creator suite, empowering users to build intricate worlds and sell assets within the game’s creator economy. Notably, full-body avatars have been introduced, offering more options for personal expression.
As part of its growth, Rec Room has expanded its reach, launching on the Nintendo Switch in November. This addition complements its availability on various platforms, including PC VR, all Quest devices, the original PSVR, iOS, Android, Pico, Xbox, and PlayStation.
