Treyarch has finally lifted the curtain on the latest addition to the Zombies mode in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, and it’s called “Shattered Veil.” Fans can rejoice as they get to dive into it a day earlier than originally planned.
Initially set for late March, Season 3’s content drop for Black Ops 6 had been pushed back to April 3. However, Activision has given us a pleasant surprise by bringing it forward to April 2 for both the multiplayer and Zombies modes. Unfortunately, if you’re eagerly awaiting Verdansk’s return in Call of Duty: Warzone, you’ll need to hold out until April 3.
This new map pushes the Dark Aether storyline, the backbone of Black Ops 6’s Zombies mode, forward. Our brave crew has managed to secure the Sentinel Artifact, and now they find themselves ensnared in a dilapidated mansion nestled in the forested ridges of West Virginia, not too far from Liberty Falls.
Does the mansion strike a familiar chord? It should. It’s the same one glimpsed in the original Liberty Falls cinematic. Within its walls and shady surroundings, you’ll find fresh threats like the Elder Disciple, ready to energize and amplify nearby zombies, even morphing them into formidable Doppelghasts. And then there’s the toxic variety, rushing towards you through a choking fog to explode and leave treacherous acid pools in their wake.
Apart from that, you’ll also encounter new traps. Prepare to deal with zombies using microwave traps or the Dark Aether Field Generator, which disintegrates them with dark aether energy. It’s essential to be cautious, as you wouldn’t want to fall victim to your own contraptions.
The reinvigorated world of Shattered Veil brings back the nostalgic Double Tap perk-a-cola, remembered fondly from Black Ops 3. It’s making its appearance in Zombies thanks to the Der Wunderfizz machine, and it offers a host of powerful augments to bolster your gameplay. Some of the major ones include Double Jeopardy, where weaker zombies might collapse with a single shot, and Double Impact, upping damage when hitting the same target quickly. Don’t forget to try the minor augments such as Double Time for enhanced firing speed and Double or Nothing for the chance—as risky as it may sound—for double damage or none at all.
Season 3 also welcomes new wonder weapons, marking the return of the iconic Ray Gun with its Mark II version, designed for three-round bursts, and the Wunderwaffe DG-2, known for its electrifying chain-lightning attack. This isn’t just a powerful offense—it can also temporarily stun masses of zombies, maximizing your critical opportunities.
To add an extra layer of strategy, new Gobblegums are sprinkled throughout the gameplay. For instance, Tactical Diffusion turns what could be an explosive Nuke Power-Up into a bounty of Essence, while Support Group decks you out with serious firepower like the ARC-XD and Mangler Cannon. And just for fun, Die Pitched lends the zombies a comedic flair with squeaky, high-pitched voices.
Keep an eye on the returning Death Machine scorestreak, now constructible with 1750 salvage. If navigating the Dark Aether’s twists and tangles feels daunting, the MidSeason refresh might be your ally, introducing Directed Mode for Shattered Veil. Look forward to the refresh as it also brings Team Cranked mode and the Frost Blast field upgrade.
