Silent North has officially entered the early access stage and is now up for grabs on both Quest and PC VR headsets. Developed by Combat Waffle, the same team behind Ghosts of Tabor, this sandbox survival shooter is shaping up to be quite the adventure.
If you’re familiar with Rust, developed by Face Punch Studio back in 2013, you’ll find a similar vibe here, with Silent North providing a broad sandbox experience that lets you set your own path. You can choose to team up with others, turn against them, or simply immerse yourself in the lively, ever-changing world.
Scott Albright, the mastermind behind Combat Waffle Studios, shared some insights on this. “Silent North offers a different kind of thrill compared to Ghosts of Tabor. While our previous game emphasized heart-pounding raids and tactical skirmishes, this one dives into pure survival, encouraging gear scavenging and strategic exits,” he explained. He pointed out how the survival genre often lacks the immersive depth that VR can provide, a gap they are eager to fill.
As you’d expect in a survival setting, there are environmental challenges to navigate, not to mention the inevitable encounters with hostile Infected—yes, think zombies—and other players keen on making it through.
Currently tagged as an “alpha Early Access release,” Silent North is accessible via the Horizon Store for Quest 2 and newer models, as well as through Steam for PC VR users. It’s currently priced at $20, which sounds like a fair deal for those ready to jump into this gritty virtual world.
