Gaming powerhouse Tencent has rolled out a new title for PC called Light of Motiram, and from the looks of it, it seems to echo Sony’s renowned Horizon series by Guerrilla Games quite strikingly. We’re not dealing with a mere resemblance here; Light of Motiram appears to draw directly from the essence of Horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden West.
### Will Sony Take Legal Action Against Tencent’s Lookalike?
Light of Motiram, showcased in the trailer below, is crafted by Polaris Quest, a subsidiary of Tencent. The game is described as set in a “mechanimal-ruled open world,” where players navigate the challenges posed by massive machines dominating a post-apocalyptic landscape.
As soon as Light of Motiram hit the spotlight, players began drawing parallels to the Palworld and Pokemon situation. Just like Palworld, which has faced legal trouble for mimicking Pokemon, with Nintendo taking its developer Pocketpair to court over patent infringements, Light of Motiram seems to be in murky waters as well.
Some gamers are urging Sony to challenge Tencent over what they see as a clear imitation of the Horizon series. Meanwhile, others argue that going after Tencent legally for this game could be a bit excessive.
Attempts have been made by various websites to seek comments from both Sony and Tencent, though neither has issued a statement. However, it wouldn’t come as a shock if Sony decides to pursue legal actions. Letting this slide might encourage similar copies of its other famed franchises.
