Incuvo’s VR adaptation of the well-loved open-world survival game, Green Hell VR (2022), is finally set to unveil its eagerly anticipated co-op mode for Quest and PSVR 2 this month.
The co-op feature was first teased back in April 2023 and is slated to become available for free starting December 16th to those who own the game on PSVR 2 and Quest 2, 3, and 3S.
In this new co-op experience, teams of up to four players can dive into the game’s dense jungle setting, wielding both melee and ranged weapons. Players can hunt for food, defend against the menacing wildlife, and construct shelters to protect against environmental threats. Interestingly, the game now allows for a visual indication when a player needs healing, which includes helping each other by spotting and removing pesky leeches.
However, a bit of a bummer for fans is that this update doesn’t support cross-play across different platforms including PC-to-VR or Quest-to-PSVR 2 gameplay. According to a recent post on X from the studio, their main focus was on developing the multiplayer update itself, suggesting that adding cross-play would have delayed its release. That being said, they hinted it might be something they consider for the future.
“Introducing co-op to Meta Quest and PSVR2 is a massive step for our VR community. We know they’ve been eagerly awaiting this feature since we launched on these platforms,” expressed Incuvo CEO Andrzej Wychowaniec. “It was crucial for us to meet their expectations for a rich, collaborative survival experience.”
While the excitement builds for Quest and PSVR 2 users, there is no confirmed word on whether the co-op mode will make its way to the SteamVR version. Currently, it seems unlikely as the PC VR edition has seen limited attention since its last update in late 2022. The studio has primarily focused on bringing the ‘Spirits of Amazonia Part I’ expansion to Quest and PSVR 2 users, leaving the future of co-op on SteamVR uncertain.
