COLD VR, the much-anticipated spiritual successor to the beloved SUPERHOT VR from 2016, is gearing up for its big debut on Quest and PC VR headsets next month, with a release for PSVR 2 also in the pipeline for later on.
Though SUPERHOT VR has been around for a while, it remains a fan favorite, largely due to its innovative time-stopping mechanics. Interestingly, there haven’t been many attempts by other studios to mimic this unique gameplay feature.
Enter Cold VR, which goes a step further by adding a twist to the formula. Instead of making everything slow down, the game speeds things up. In this high-stakes environment, time races ahead when you move slowly, as does the enemy AI. Hesitation isn’t an option; dawdle, and you’re toast.
In an exciting update, developer ALLWARE has revealed in their latest trailer that they’ve partnered with Perp Games to launch Cold VR on Quest and PC VR headsets on January 21st, 2025. The PSVR 2 version is expected to come out sometime after that, though the exact date hasn’t been specified yet.
Adding to the thrill, the game is set to deliver not only increasingly challenging enemy AI but also various environmental dangers like deadly lasers, moving platforms, and unexpected surprises for the brave explorers among us.
Reflecting on the development process, ALLWARE’s Carlos Alfonso shares his enthusiasm: “Creating COLD VR has been an amazing adventure. The support from Perp Games has been phenomenal, and I’m excited to offer players a truly groundbreaking experience where time itself is your tool. With Perp Games on board, we’re able to reach a broader audience with PSVR2 and Quest. I can’t wait to see what comes next!”
For those eager to dive into this adventure, you can already add Cold VR to your wishlist across all platforms. Priced at $19.99 / £14.99 / €19.99, it’s available on the Horizon Store for Quest 2/3/Pro, Steam for PC VR headsets, and the PlayStation Store for PSVR 2.
