Call of Duty: Warzone recently shook things up by lowering the player count in Area 99 to enhance match flow and cut down on interruptions from other players dropping in on your battles. This change hasn’t gone unnoticed and the community is buzzing with mixed feelings. Many are casting longing eyes back to Warzone’s Rebirth Island, attributing their preference to these recent tweaks. Meanwhile, others see the merit in having fewer people, predicting fewer rapid eliminations right after parachuting into the action.
After the update, which ticked over without Black Ops 6 tagging along, Warzone has caught a wave of popularity yet again. Season 1 arrived, bringing plenty of new goodies for players. Alongside fresh operators and returning maps like Urzikstan and Rebirth Island, players also got to dive into Area 99. Crafted by Treyarch, this map throws players into Nevada’s desert for bouts of "intense, tactical combat," thanks to its many strategic points and more compact area. But, it hasn’t all been smooth sailing. Freshly minted changes have further stirred the community’s pot of concerns.
Come November 25, Area 99 saw adjustments based on developer data insights. Player numbers across different modes have been trimmed a bit: Quads and Duos dipped from a cap of 44 to 40, Trios eased down to 42 from 45, and Solos dropped to 40 players altogether.
The community’s reception has been a grab bag of reactions. While some players are hopeful about having more breathing room on the map, which would perhaps mean fewer sudden eliminations, others aren’t so thrilled, with many ready to jump back to the familiar grounds of Rebirth Island for a more favorable experience.
Beyond this player count tweak, the November 25 update tidied up some lingering glitches. One major fix involved the pesky gas mask animation that had a mind of its own. Plus, the Akimbo attachment for Black Ops 6 weapons has been put on ice. On the audio front, the volume for player movements has been adjusted for a smoother aural experience with operators from Modern Warfare 2 and 3.
